Pilgrimage is a foundation practice
of the Aro Tradition, in the present day, especially for apprentices seeking ordination. It is invaluable, irreplaceable experience to visit locales where the Vajrayana tradition has its roots, whether in India and the Himalayas or in Hidden Lands elsewhere on the globe. In such environments the tradition of the Tantric Buddhas Padmasambhava and Yeshé Tsogyel is palpably alive. Especially in the company of one's personal teachers, one can come to know transmission as the quality of passing moments and evanescent spaces, whether or not they have been designated to be 'special'. A double recognition awaits the pilgrim. With a sense of connection to these roots, one can lift one's eyes to the horizon of practice in this life and beyond. With new generations of practitioners, oneself included, the tradition itself has a future.
