The Hidden Land of Yeshé Tsogyel
North West Montana, USA
In 2005 the teachers and students of Aro Ga'dzong bought forty acres of land in north west Montana, USA. Kyabjé Düd 'jom Rinpoche, late head of the Nyingma Tradition, one of the most revered of twentieth century Lamas, pointed out this region as a 'hidden land' sacred to Yeshé Tsogyel, the female tantric Buddha. Ngak'chang Rinpoche and Khandro Déchen opened the Hidden Land as an environment specially supportive to Dzogchen meditation practice, in 2004. A number of the American and European apprentices and Friends of the Confederate Sanghas of Aro have put their resources towards buying parcels of land and creating homesteads there, to preserve the environment and enhance it. There are plans to plant deciduous forest, and level grassland so as to support horses. In 2007 the Aro Ga'dzong sangha travelled to Montana to work on their own land and their sangha neighbours', the first of what will be regular pilgrimages. At this time Ngala Rig'dzin Dorje gave their acreage the name 'Land Where the White Tiger Family Plays'; the name came from a dream he had about the area, shortly before the pilgrimage.
